President Trump responded on Twitter Tuesday regarding the deadly New York City incident, currently being investigated as terrorism by the NYPD and FBI, “looks like another attack by a sick and deranged person.”

The attack occurred on the West Side of Manhattan shortly after 3 p.m. beginning at the World Trade Center Memorial, spreading along a bike path. Authorities have identified the suspect as, Sayfullo Saipov, 29, of Tampa, Florida, who was taken into custody. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared the incident a “cowardly act of terror” at a press conference along with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Pres. Trump was briefed on the incident by Chief of Staff John Kelly and would updated continually as more details were learned.
Just after Trump’s tweet, Vice President Mike Pence added that he was “saddened by the tragedy in NYC” and that “those responsible must be held accountable.”
